The Best Men and The Kooky Ukes were out in force this last weekend, travelling down to Cork, then Kinsale, then Kilkenny to play at a number of fantastic weddings.
We were booked to perform at a civil ceremony for Siobhan & Gavin in the Triskel Christchurch Arts Centre in Cork City Centre on Friday. To make sure the day would be plain sailing for the Ukes, we stayed in the Ashley Hotel the previous night and then motored around the city to get to the venue that morning. We set up and performed for the arrival of the guests at this quite cool, ecclesiastical-looking-but-secular venue. Unfortunately for the bride, her vintage wedding car never turned up! So Siobhan had to grab a taxi to bring her to the event. This meant a delay in proceedings – so the guests were treated to many more soft ukulele songs than originally thought. Whether they liked it or not! Luckily for us, there were charmed by the music and we had ourselves a rapt audience!
Then it was to the Maryborough Hotel & Spa, for afternoon ukulele shenanigans. We chatted about a couple of new songs to add to the set, including Sweet Child Of Mine and Billie Jean.
Then across to the Carlton Hotel in Kinsale, which boasts some spectacular views of the area. The dancefloor was mobbed from start to finish, a nice way to end our day in a busy run around Corcaigh – rebels abú!
On Saturday, we worked on our upcoming video and then hit Kilkenny for a wedding at Lyrath Estate. Not many hotels have an actual cinema in them. But Lyrath does! We’ve been here many times and the room often has very different set-ups, which shows you how flexible they are for couples with different guest numbers and different requirements. A really lovely night!
