The Best Men Wedding Band were back in business on Thursday, beginning with a Church Ceremony in Clonskeagh with singer Stella Bass. The church http://www.clonskeaghparish.
Once again, we returned to Ballymagarvey, Boyne Hill House and Radisson Blu Farnham Estate for evening gigs.
We chatted with the DJs about the fact that weddings in Boyne Hill House are ALWAYS great party nights. The bar area does an amazing job of generating and containing atmosphere. Ask me and I will always bang on about the setting and atmosphere in a venue and how important it is. A few simple elements ensure you get the best out of the party:
– Keep the house lights low or off altogether. You know that time when you’re in a bar when they want you to leave so they turn the lights on? See how easily bright lights burst the balloon?
– Entertainers need colourful lights; it’s a stimulus/response situation. People who see coloured, flashing lights in a dark room are readily transported to that place in their minds where dancing should happen. After all, when Rihanna comes on someone’s car radio in the daytime, they don’t jump out and start dancing. The situation needs to be visually reminiscent of a club or event for people to respond in the ideal way.
– The room and dancefloor must not be too large in proportion to the number of guests.
– The band should be as close to the dance floor as possible. A gap of only 6 feet between the band and floor opens a barrier, somehow – just something I’ve noticed before.
Then another great evening in the resplendent Radisson Blu Farnham Estate hotel in Cavan. Wonderful crowd and a nice, unusual first dance, Gravity by Embrace.
