The sun is out, it’s mild – we’re just back from London, so I think I may have taken the wrong plane, this can’t be Ireland in October.
This week, The Best Men wedding band performed at cermonies and weddings in Killashee House Hotel, Druid’s Glen and Dunboyne Castle.
I seem to be fascinated by the fact that Killashee was once a school. I have this sense of students bustling around its corridors in the distant past… not to sound like the Dead Poets’ Society or anything!
I reckon that we have may have played Killashee House the most times of any venue in Ireland, over the years. If not the most, then it’s got to be up there. A testament to its popularity as a wedding venue for so long and the high standards they have maintained throughout that time.
Our Kooky Ukes show this weekend was our first ever booking for the ukulele trio, which came in at the start of the year. So while it was far from being our first gig as the Kooky Ukes, it was the first one that we proudly stamped in the calendar, way back in January! Very positive reports from all on the day. It’s very satisfying to perform in an acoustic fashion and see an electric response – people boogie and film us on their phones!
Our drummer Aran has begun to set up his drumkit on the side of the stage, looking across. This seems like a really good idea to me, because nods and winks we use to cue each other are much easier to do. It’s also more forgiving on a smaller stage than the usual ‘drums in the back, everyone else in front’ layout. This setup means we have something in common with Tool, Phish, Toto and many other crazy muso people!
