Monday morning and the ‘musician’s weekend‘ begins. This is my leisurely, big yawn, have-2-slices-of-toast time, and also, an opportunity to take stock of the last few days’ weddings.
This weekend, The Best Men Wedding Band performed at the Ardboyne Hotel in Navan, Ballymagarvey, Moyvalley and Cabra Castle.
Stella Bass and I performed ceremony music in St. Patrick’s Church in Trim on Thursday afternoon. It’s a gigantic place; I decided that if I set-up on the balcony (the conventional thing to do for a church ceremony), we’d be in a different time zone to the Bride & Groom. So instead, we took position beside the altar and everything ran perfectly.

The next day, we were back in the beautiful Ballymagarvey once more. We show up there so often, it has now become a joke. ‘Have you moved in?’… ‘Sure you know where the coffee is at, at this stage’, some of the comments we got from the staff! We must be a pretty good fit for the sense of the place: a lot of people who like Ballymagarvey seem to like us too.
We also did our first ever ‘Sing-Song’ gig. After The Kooky Ukes in the afternoon, our evening band and the set from Pro DJs, it was time for me and Colin to don the instruments one more time, from 2:00am to 4:00am. Our plan was to accompany a typical sing-song, call upon everyone to join in with the classic late night anthems – but the party were still up for more dancing! So all the big beat belters were given a whirl – even ‘Maniac 2000’, which you have NEVER before heard on piano and acoustic guitar!
